The New Woman tells the compelling story of the shifting social positions of women in Dutch art from the late 19th century onward.

Women in the spotlight In the spotlight are women who take to the barricades, enter new fields of work, create masterpieces, build collections, light a cigarette, flaunt their short (or long) hairstyle, or jump on a bike. Time and again, these women challenge ideas of what is considered typically ‘feminine’ or ‘masculine,’ break with conventions, and push boundaries.

With exhibition design and visual identity developed to echo the bold spirit of the New Woman.

Featuring works by: Charley Toorop, Marlene Dumas, Else Berg, Jan Sluijters, Iris Kensmil, Lou Loeber, Eva Besnyö, Isaac Israels, Helen Verhoeven, Thérèse Schwartze, Rineke Dijkstra, Leo Gestel, and many others.
